The Cafe...Real, Authentic, Safe Place!

Our Desire...to be a community of authentic, real Christ-followers building a community of real relationships to one another, and our world.

Church should be more than just a menu of programs and activities. It's supposed to be a place where followers of Jesus build a community... a place where those who attend love God more, and love others (their world) more visibly!

Mission: We exist to equip Christ-followers to uniquely engage the community through authentic relationships.

Matthew's Cafe disbands

On Sunday, September 14, 2014 the Matthew's Café congregation voted to disband and discontinue meeting as a church.

The final meeting of the congregation was on Sept. 21, a worship and pot-luck at a private home. The attached group photo was taken at that time.

Connecting at the Cafe

Community Groups are one of the ways people at the Cafe connect with each other throughout the week. Our community groups are the primary place where life happens at Matthew's Cafe. They are where we connect, grow and share. We seek to add outreach and service to these groups  in order to infuse service into the culture of  the church; to help people become agent's of God's grace to others.

There are currently two Community Groups that meet each week. On Tuesday nights, Scott and Becky Eitel cohost a group with Scott and Jessica Starkey that meets at the Eitel's. Currently they are studying the book of Joel. This is a group that is open to join any time as the content is ever changing and easy to catch up with. For more info on this group contact us via email here

A Wednesday night group led by  Larry and Betsy Hobbs is currently working their way through "Sacred Marriage" and are taking a serious look at the idea that God didn't design marriage to make us happier, but to make us holy. That our relationships aren't about you and your spouse as much as it is about you and God.  A refreshing look at marriage!

If you are not in a Community Group but would like to be connect with Larry Hobbs or Scott Eitel. Maybe you are feeling led to lead a group! They can help you discern how that might look as well!

Dinner Connection - is a practice we've had for years here at the Cafe. Seasonally, couples, singles and families sign up for and are assigned a group to share a potluck style meal with, monthly for at least three months. The group chooses what to do, where they might meet, and how long they will continue. New friendships grow out of it, and surprisingly, it is often people who have had a passing acquaintance with each other for years who get the most out of investing time getting to know each other better. New folks get plugged in and forever friendships are formed.

Fifth Sunday Traditionally, Fifth Sundays at the Cafe mean the opportunity to connect with our church family in special ways. In the past it has meant picnics in the park (Baptisms, too!) pinewood derbies, chili cookoffs and more.

Christmas at Shaffer Ranch

Once again we celebrated Christmas Eve at the Shaffer Ranch with our church family. The Christmas story unfolded with a live nativity complete with baby lambs. As we sang the traditional carols and weaved our way through the scripture telling us of prophecy and it's fulfillment the feeling in the barn, the sounds and smells, all help create a very special experience. Thanks Richard and Barbara for sharing it with us!

National Night Out

Matthew's Cafe partnered with the Chico Police Officer's Association in sponsoring this year's National Night Out at DeGarmo Park. There was food and fun for everyone!  Loving on and supporting our police officers in Chico is a special ministry the Cafe has been involved in for several years. Check out the complete picture album here.
